Welcome to Rockledge!
International Day is on School Focus!
Friday, May 4th was International Day at Rockledge and School Focus was here to capture the excitement! In the morning parents joined students as they went on a "tour of countries".  Countries such as Columbia, China, France, Pakistan, Vietnam, Argentina and many more were represented, where students learned about the culture, sampled foods and saw native clothing.  Due to inclement weather, the afternoon performance was moved inside, where students performed for their classmates.  Click here to see the School Focus segment.

Rockledge Robotics!
Best of luck to Nicholas Reagan, Ethan Hart, Ryan Ehlers, Matt York, Sam Borak, and Ben Slyder our students who make up the Rockledge robotics team, The Electro Eagles.  They will be participating in the Prince William County FLL Fun Day on May 12th!  These students have been working hard to develop and program a robot which is capable of improving food safety.  We are proud of our Rockledge engineers!  Additionally, we'd like to thank our coach, Jarrett Reagan, and two other parent volunteers, Angie Hart and Anne Ehlers, for their support and leadership with this exciting club!
Health & Safety Night Was a Great Success!
We appreciated the support of our business partners: OWL Fire Department, Bowl America, PWC Water Authority, Linda's Ballet Workshop, PWC Parks Authority, Tae Kwon Do, Village Ski's and Bikes, Dale City Farmers Market, Natural Nutrition, Coast Guard, Skate-N-Fun Zone, Dance Tumble & Cheer, PWC Crime Prevention Unit, Old Mine Ranch, Lake Ridge Running Club, Girl Scout Troop #644, NOVA Nursing School, Retro Fitness and Cary McCown our crossing guard on Mariner.  THANK YOU for supporting our ongoing effort to educate our students about having healthy lifestyles! We would also like to thank all of the volunteers that helped prepare and set up for Health & Safety Night. Without all of your fantastic support, events such as this would not be possible. Kindergarten Registration
Your child must turn 5 on or before September 30th to be eligible to enroll for the 2012-2013 school year. Please bring the following for your child: an original birth certificate and Social Security Card. Parents must also bring three proofs of residency: a sales contract or lease for their home AND two other forms of residency, for example, utility bills, tax bill, voter registration, etc.

Rockledge Is A School of Excellence!
Rockledge Elementary celebrated its 10th year as a School of Excellence on Monday, April 9th with a fun theme; Hang Ten! Riding the Wave to 10 Years of Excellence. We were honored to celebrate with School Board Chairman, Milton Johns, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Steven Walts, and Associate Superintendent, Rita Goss.  After Principal Schott introduced the special guests, the Rockledge Chorus sang two pieces including "Side by Side" and the Rockledge School Song.  Throughout the event, a slideshow of photographs of student learning activities was played while the honorees enjoyed mingling over a relaxing lunch.  Brittany's Restaurant provided a Caribbean themed luncheon.  Mr. Johns, Dr. Walts, Mrs. Goss and Mrs. Schott provided congratulatory messages to the attendees.  Several students read a special essay on behalf of students to describe what they believe makes Rockledge a School of Excellence.  The Rockledge community is proud to be named a School of Excellence for the 10th time and is working hard to ensure continued student success! Click here to see some pictures from the celebration.
2012 Board of Education Excellence Awards
Governor Bob McDonnell and the Board of Education announced schools who earned 2012 Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) awards for advanced learning and achievement.  The incentive program recognizes schools and divisions that far exceed minimum state and federal accountability standards and achieve excellence goals established by the governor and the board.  These schools have met all state and federal accountability benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and have made significant progress toward goals for increased student achievement and expanded educational opportunities set by the board.  Additionally, Rockledge is one of only twelve schools out of 93 schools in Prince William County to receive this honor!! Congratulations to Rockledge staff, students and community for your commitment to academic excellence!
2011 Governor's Gold Award
Rockledge staff and students for winning the 2011 Governor's GOLD Award for Nutrition and Physical Activity!  Rockledge was awarded gold for implementing best practices that support proper nutrition and increased physical activity to promote student health and improved academic performance.
