No School
There will be no school on Monday, November 3rd and Tuesday, November 4th for a Teacher Workday and a Parent/Teacher Conference day. Students will return to school on Wednesday, November 5th.
Attention 5th Grade Parents
Are you interested in learning about the World Language Programs offered at the middle school level? If so, you should plan to attend the informational nights at the middle schools.

Students slated to attend Lake Ridge Middle can go to the informational night at Lake Ridge Middle School on Wednesday November 5, 2014 or Thursday January 8, 2015. Both meetings are at 7:00pm. 

Students slated to attend Woodbridge Middle School or Fred Lynn Middle School should attend the informational night at Fred Lynn Middle School, also held on Wednesday November 5, 2014 and January 8, 2015. Both of these meetings will also be at 7pm. Please contact these schools directly with questions or concerns about the World Language Programs.

Information On Healthy Snacks
Last month a letter was sent home regarding health and wellness. It outlined the need to arrange with your child's teacher in advance if you are interested in bringing snacks to school. You can click here to see a copy of that letter. We are also including the Healthy Special Day form and the Healthy Refreshment Idea form. These forms will be available year round on the side link under: Parents, Health and Wellness. Thank you for your assistance in making this a healthy school year!
Welcome to Our New Kindergarten Teacher!
A new kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Bennard, has been hired and we would like you to join us in welcoming her to Rockledge. Mrs. Bennard will be observing students in all four of our kindergarten classes until October 24. Principal Schott will notify the parents of students who will be joining Mrs. Bennard's new class. On October 24, Mrs. Bennard will host a Meet & Greet for students and parents from 3:50-5:00pm in room 119. An evening Meet & Greet is scheduled on November 6 from 6:30-8:00pm in room 119. On Monday, October 27, all selected students will begin attending Mrs. Bennard's class. Mrs. Bennard will be participating in her students' scheduled Parent Teacher conferences with each child's current teacher. Advisory Council
Are you interested in becoming more involved in your child's school? Consider becoming a part of the Rockledge Advisory Council. Council members have an opportunity to learn more about what is happening at Rockledge. Members also provide input to the principal regarding the school's programs and initiatives, strategic plan and budget. The meetings are held in the library on the first Thursday of each month and will follow this schedule:
October 2, 3:50 - 4:50
November 6, 6 - 6:30 (all invited to participate in PTA following this meeting)
January 8, 3:50 - 4:50
February 5, 6 - 6:30
March 5, 3:50 - 4:50
May 7, 6 - 6:30

Student Safety
Parents, please model safe arrival and dismissal procedures by ALWAYS crossing at crosswalks.  Although you may feel safe when crossing at other locations, our young children are watching you and frequently copy adult behaviors.  PLEASE, for the safety our our students, cross at the crosswalks.
Free and Reduced Meal Applications
Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications were mailed via email or US mail by the School Division to families with children registered in Prince William County Public Schools. If you did not receive an application, please contact School Food and Nutrition Services at 703.791.7314 or your school. You may also complete the application electronically. Visit the School Division Web site at to access the electronic application. Parents may return the application to the school.
School Food and Nutrition Services will process the applications as received, and notify parents of their approval or disapproval. If the parent has an email on file this notification will be done electronically. Students who were eligible to receive free or reduced price meals in Prince William County Public Schools in 2013-14 will be served based on their previous eligibility until October 14, 2014 or a new application is processed. After that date, no student can receive free and reduced price meals unless they have a current approved application on file in the School Food and Nutrition Services office.

Student Accident Insurance
Student accident insurance is becoming more and more important to families due to lack of other insurance for their children, or having major medical plans with ever-increasing deductibles and co-insurance requirements. Student accident insurance will be available July 1 for parents to enroll their students for the 2014-15 school year. Markel (PWCS student accident insurance provider) has an electronic enrollment process through the Markel Web site or by calling 877.444.5014.
This Web site allows parents to:
• View all of the coverage and premium options;
• Review a “Frequently Asked Questions” section; and
• Purchase the insurance using a credit/debit card and receive an instant and printable confirmation of what they purchased.

After Hours Bus Information
For emergency transportation related problems after office hours (4:00pm - 5:30am) call 703.791.8805. If there is a problem after regular office hours, call the Risk Management dispatcher. The dispatcher can contact the Office of Transportation Services supervisor who can assist you. You should be prepared to provide the dispatcher with your child's name, school bus number, and a brief summary of the problem.
