PEP
Parents as Educational Partners (PEP) is a parent outreach program coordinated by Central Registration for grades K-12. It is designed to empower parents and guardians of English language learners (ELLs) to become involved in school decisions regarding their children's education. Sessions highlight the English language necessary for the home-school connection. Components of the program include:
  • Orientation to the PWCS educational system
  • Information on school procedures
  • Strategies to support academic success
  • The sharing of information on educational systems from heritage countries
PEP classes will be held at Rockledge every Wednesday afternoon from 4:00 - 6:00pm during February and March.
Free Online Reading For Children
How would you like your child to always have something to read, for FREE?   There are several ways to do this without leaving home.  First, if your child does not have a Public Library Card, get one for them.  An application is available on the website.  The card is free, and if you have internet access you can go to the Public Library's webpage and find lots of books and resources that can be accessed from the comfort of your own home.  On the left of the website, found at http://www.pwcgov.org/government/dept/library/Pages/default.aspx,
there are two resources that are particularly helpful.  The first link is eAudiobooks and eBooks where you will find books that can be “downloaded/checked out” to your computer OR digital device, for a week or two. Click on Overdrive and the last column at the top takes you to fiction and nonfiction titles for children.
A second link to explore is the Online Resources and under that click on Electronic Resources.  There is an incredible wealth of online products for both children and adults that the Prince William County Library makes available at no charge to its patrons.  If your child does not have a library card, please, please consider getting them one and take a little time to explore the online portion of our fabulous Prince William County Public Library from your own home!

Inclement Weather
In the event Prince William County Schools cancel afternoon and evening activities, students will be sent home by their usual method. Information on school closings and delays can be found on PWCS.edu as well as on the Rockledge website. Please check the website before calling the school. Information is posted on the website and emails may be sent before the school is notified. The letter to parents from the Superintendent regarding school closings and delays is available on pwcs.edu: "News and Updates", "Closings, Delays and Emergencies", "Inclement Weather school Delays & Closings". You can also click here to be directed to the letter.

SACC and Inclement Weather
The School Age Child Care (SACC) program does not operate during inclement weather closings. When school is closed, SACC is closed. If school closes early due to inclement weather, parents will be notified and can implement their alternative plan for weather related or other emergency closings. Parents who have children registered in the SACC program should have completed an "Inclement Weather and Emergency Dismissal Form," which details the this alternative plan. When the School Division cancels after-school and/or evening activities, all SACC students must be picked up before 5 p.m. See the SACC brochure for more complete details or visit the SACC Web site.
Rockledge Elementary Designated 2014 School of Excellence

Our students have the distinction of attending a newly named PWCS School of Excellence. This is the 13th year Rockledge has earned the coveted title.

School of Excellence is the highest recognition awarded to schools by the PWCS School Board. It signifies high levels of performance on state accreditation, Annual Measurable Objectives, and in moving toward the goals of the Division's Strategic Plan.

Congratulations to everyone who helped to earn this important indicator of student success.
